Answer

When a hold is frozen, it means your position in the hold queue is skipped over until the request is reactivated.  This allow you to stay in the hold queue and keep moving up as holds are fulfilled ahead of your hold position. It also allows holds be filled for patrons further down the queue when you are unable to pick up the item.

When a hold is reactivated, and if all holds ahead of your position were fulfilled, then you will be the next up. You may monitor and manage your holds in MY ACCOUNT.  Sometimes, library users forgot to reactivate their frozen holds and found that copies were available at the time they tried to reactivate them.  In that instance, please give us a call and we will be happy to pull the copy from the shelves for you.  Here is a brief paragraph on how to manage a hold when it shows a "Check Shelf" status : https://www.tolibrary.org/services/get-help/my-account-help/manage-holds#unfreeze

The system will allow a hold frozen for 255 days before clearing it.
