Printing from Library Internet Workstations
The library Internet workstations can print from websites, desktop applications, such as Word, and from a USB drive.
When you are at the Internet workstation, and you have logged on, you can print by opening or creating a document and using the on screen print icons or using the File > Print option, or using the keyboard command [CTRL] + [P] to initiate the print job.
A dialog box will open on the screen allowing you to choose Black and White (default) or Color (see menu options) for your format.
You will then need to name your print job. To simplify retrieval of your job, we suggest you name your job something extremely simple, like your initials. If you send multiple print jobs, it can be helpful to name them all the exact same name. This way, you only have to enter one name to get all of your prints. The print job name does not appear on the file or the printout, and exists only so you can log into the Print queue.
After typing in the print job name, click OK, and another dialog box will appear. Do not select anything from the menu, just hit OK. Do the same for the next box as well. Your job will now be in the print queue. Jobs stay in the queue until printed, or for 24 hours if not printed. They will not be released until you release them at the Printer station. No one else can see your print job.
To release your print job, go to the Print Release Station and insert coins (no pennies) or one-dollar bills to equal or exceed the amount owed. Then log in with your print job name,
Select the jobs to print by clicking one time so the line turns blue (jobs not selected will not be printed) If you wish, you can click the "Preview" button to check the document(s)
Once the job has been selected, click the "Print" button in the upper left corner of the screen, and then click the button to the left of the option "Pay from Vending Device."
Your job will print, and any change due will drop into the coin return.
If you want to pay with credit or debit (we accept MasterCard and Visa, but not AmEx or Discover) or if you have a print job that totals $5.00 or more, simply come to the Information Desk.
Printing from your own device
You can send documents to the Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park Library printers by using our Wireless Printing Options.
If you are in the library, we recommend getting on Library WiFi to speed the process.
Black-and-white printing costs $0.15 per page, and color printing is $0.50 per page.
Printing is done to standard plain white multi-use 20lb Letter size (8 1/2 x 11 inches) bright white paper. The use of other papers, labels, or photo papers is not allowed due to the risk of damage to the copiers/printers.
Sending very large files to the print queue will result in job failure. The queue has a limit of less than 100MB per file, or no more than 60 pages.
PDFs - beware!
PDF documents with non-letter size formatting (sizes other than 8 1/2 x 11, even if they are smaller than that size), or with narrow margins that are outside the print area will typically be automatically rejected by the Printer.
If you open your PDF and see a prompt to “enable all features,” you MUST do that before sending it to print or Princh won’t be able to receive the document – no matter which printing method you choose.
How can I see my pending print jobs?
If you choose the email option to send your documents to our printers, you will get an email confirmation for each print job sent.
If you send your documents through PRINCH, there will be a queue of print jobs at the print release station when you come to the library, but there is not a way to view that queue remotely.
Printing photos of objects or documents from your phone
if you use your phone camera to capture an image of a document or ID, or just to print one of your photos, please be aware that the image will print as a full-size 8.5x11 inch document. It is not possible to resize or edit images while sending to the print queue, whether you are using PRINCH or the email option. We suggest you use our on-site computers to import the photo to a Word Document, to resize before printing. Alternately, you may want to simply bring in the document or ID and use our photocopier for this purpose.
