Q. How should library materials be returned?

When the library is open, books and other materials should be returned in the book drops next to the Circulation Desk, or in the Drive up book drop located on the East side of the building near the Children's Library entrance.  Kits, Library of Things items, oversize items, book club in a box and park passes should always be returned to the Circulation Desk.  If your item is overdue, or has been billed, please return it directly to a circulation staff member, so it can immediately be cleared from your record. 

Newbury Park Branch

All books and other materials should be returned in the book drop next to the Circulation Desk in the library when the library is open.  To ensure safe return when the branch is closed, all materials should be deposited in the book drop located outside the front door of the Newbury Park Branch Library. Kits, Library of Things items, oversize items, book club in a box and park passes should always be returned to the Circulation Desk.  If your item is overdue, or has been billed, please return it directly to a circulation staff member, so it can immediately be cleared from your record. 

Drive-Up Book Returns

Drive-up book returns located at the Grant R. Brimhall Library and the Newbury Park Branch are provided for the convenience of our patrons.  These drops are emptied daily by library staff, but the Newbury Park Branch drops may be closed during inclement weather.  Patrons are responsible for any damage to materials or loss of materials left in these book drops.  NEVER return equipment to ANY book drop. A $5.00 charge will be assessed if any of these items are deposited in drive-up book returns.

"Return to Circulation Desk" 

Oversize items with this sticker on the cover should always be handed directly to Circulation Staff, to make sure they are not damaged in the book drops. Even if an oversize item doesn't have a sticker, it is always safer to return to the desk. Remember, even if your oversize item is late, all fines will clear as soon as it checks in, so if the option is to return on time in a drive up drop, or to be late and return to the desk, always opt for returning to the desk.

Book Club in a Box (or bag) and Computers and WiFi Hot Spots

These kits should always be returned only to the Circulation Desk.  All books should be gathered from those who were reading the books and returned at one time, in the box.  Individuals sharing the books should not return the book directly to the library, even if this means the kit is returned late.  Computers and hot spots should be returned with all pieces of equipment including charge cords, instructions, etc.  An incomplete kit remains checked out until the last item is returned.
