The library accepts and appreciates material and monetary donations, and there are several ways to make a donation.

Become a Friend of the Library

The Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library needs you!  Make a difference with your tax-deductible contribution and become a member.  Please see library staff or make your donation online via PayPal and become a member of the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library by visiting: http://ftol.org/membership/

Celebratory and Memorial Donations

A thoughtful, long-lasting way to honor or remember friends and relatives is through a monetary donation to the library in support of the purchase of materials.  A gift of books or other library materials or equipment will, when possible, bear a gift plate with designation chosen by the donor.  Please see library staff.

Donating Previously Owned Materials to the Thousand Oaks Library

The Thousand Oaks Library and the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library welcome donations of previously owned materials.  Donated materials fulfill two purposes:  to enhance the Library’s collection or to be sold by the Friends of the Library to raise money for the Library.

1)  Items are evaluated based on criteria outlined in the Library’s selection policy and may be used to enhance the Library’s collection;

2)  Items that are not added to the Library’s collection may be sold through Used Book Sales to raise money for the Library.

The following items would not be useful for these purposes and are no longer accepted:

  • Magazines or journals
  • Records or 8 track tapes
  • Encyclopedia sets
  • Moldy items
  • Items or boxes that are water or otherwise damaged
  • VHS tapes

Examples of items that would be useful include:

  • Hardback books – both fiction and non-fiction
  • Paperback books
  • Children’s books
  • Coffee table books and collectible books
  • Music CDs
  • Unabridged Audio books on CD
  • DVDs or Blu Ray Discs

Donated materials are considered gifts to benefit the Thousand Oaks Library and cannot be returned to the donor. Patrons are asked to only donate what they can carry in to the Library. A book cart may be made available for donors to bring materials into the Library.  Patrons who would like to keep their boxes or baskets will need to place their items on a book cart. For large donations, please call the phone number below before bringing in the materials.

Receipts for tax purposes are available, but the value of materials and the number of items donated are estimated by the donor, not by library staff.

The Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library and the Thousand Oaks Library staff thank community members for their generous donations. Please contact Daniel Ruth, Vice President of Book Sales, Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library, at 805-907-2457 for more information.

Donations may be taken to either of the following locations.  Please do not leave donated materials outside the buildings.
